US Higher Education Fair: The Event
Press Release: United States Embassy Holds First Major U.S. Higher Education Fair in BruneiOn Monday, February 17, 2014, the United States Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and EducationUSA opened the U.S. Higher Education Fair at the Sutra Hall in the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.
The event was officiated by U.S. Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Daniel Shields, and Guest of Honor, the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Abu Bakar Haji Apong.The U.S. Higher Education Fair featured more than 25 colleges and universities with diverse educational programs for those interested in both undergraduate and graduate (post-graduate) programs.
Ambassador Shields provided opening remarks during the Opening Ceremony.
He stated, “I would like to praise Brunei’s educational leaders for spearheading efforts by Brunei’s premier universities in forging partnerships with American universities that are paving the way for more students to benefit from a U.S. education.”
“As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States of America and Brunei Darussalam this year, I am optimistic that our relationship will continue to grow even stronger in the coming years, ” Ambassador Shields continued.Regional Coordinator Dr. Jonathan Lembright spoke about how EducationUSA can assist prospective students. “EducationUSA Advisers share a common goal - assisting students in accessing U.S. higher education opportunities. This is done through outreach events and education fairs such as this, while offering services such as individual advising and through social media outreach. In this way we provide information, insights, and advice on how students can successfully reach their goal of studying in the United States.”
